The Nepalese people are suffering greatly due to political problems in the South of Nepal and a blockade of fuel, medicine and other critical supplies by India. Life saving medicine for blood pressure, diabetes and many other conditions are in short supply in pharmacies, hospitals and clinics throughout the country. The remote western districts are particularly hard hit.
Project Coordinator Pawel Skawinski and Project Leader Sumana Shresta have organized a complex relief effort, coordinating with airlines, pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, doctors and government officials to deliver life saving medicine to 5 districts in the remote far west of Nepal. The districts are Doti, Accham, Darchula, Baitadi and Bajura.
WeHelpNepal has granted $12,500 towards this ongoing effort. Doctors, hospitals and clinics must agree to administer the medicine for free as part of the relief effort. Hats off to Sumana and the other volunteers who have filled a critical gap at a crucial time and saved lives in the process.
Relief aid, while well intentioned, often ends up in the pockets of corrupt local bureaucrats and/or multinational contracts, with very little reaching the people that actually need it. Ensure that your contributions reach those in need.
